Presentation of the organization structure

In 2003, the hotel owners and restaurateurs in Segou decided to create an association in order to work together to promote their town.

So they created AHRTS, Association of Hotel owners and Restaurateurs for Tourism in Segou. AHRTS has for mission to contribute to the development and welfare of the tourism in the Segou region on a national and international level.

It's in the scope of this ideal that AHRTS formed, under the impulse of its president Mamou Daffé, hotel owner in Segou, a board of management charged to finance and organize the Festival. The first and second Festival on the Niger were organized in February 2005 and 2006, and were a huge success.

Beyond a purely economical development, the Festival on the Niger company also has for mission to open a perspective to sustainable development based on a cultural tourism, where meeting people from over all the world is more important than consumption.

The objectives of the Festival

The Festival on the Niger has different objectives that all go in the same direction: to develop a sustainable cultural tourism.

So the principal objective is to make the Segou region and its attraction known on a national and international level.

The specific objectives are:

• to promote and participate in the preservation of artistic and cultural expressions of the region

• to implicate the local population in a common project for the benefit of the community and to create in this way new initiatives                        

• to create, through the Forum, an international discussion and exchange platform

• to make Segou the Capital of Visual Arts by organizing an annual meeting of visual artists from Mali and other West-African countries

• to make the Festival a reference in the artistic field on an international level

• to contribute to the safeguarding of the Niger river, through concrete actions, before, during and after the festival
