The Cultural Caravan for Peace – a creative project supporting peace, tol- erance, cultural diversity and solidarity in the Sahara and the Sahel region – will celebrate for
third time in Ségou peace, concord and cultural diversity during the 12th edition of the Festival sur le Niger. The Cultural Caravan Peace was initiat- ed by the project “Cultural Caravan for Peace in Africa, “created in 2013 by three festivals from the Sahara and the Sahel region: The “Taragalte Festival” (M’Hamid, Morocco), the “Festival sur le Niger “(Ségou, Mali) and the” Festi- val in the Desert “(Timbuktu, Mali). These internationally renowned annual festivals encourage dialogue, peace, cultural exchange and the promotion of artists in their region. Thus to better encourage intercultural dialogue, the Caravan will innovate this year with: a residence of creation of a musical band and a conference.

The Cultural Caravan for Peace is a creative Sahel-Saharan project supporting peace, tolerance, cultural diversity and solidarity in the Sahara and the Sahel region. It will organize for the second time the Night of Peace and Friendship during the 11th edition of the Festival sur le Niger to celebrate the beginning of the return of peace and nationalreconstruction in Mali.
The Cultural Caravan for Peace was initiated by the project ”Cultural Caravan for Peace in Africa”, created in 2013 by three festivals of the Sahara and the Sahel regions: The “Taragalte Festival” (M’Hamid, Morocco), the “Festival sur le Niger” (Ségou, Mali) and the “Festival in the Desert” (Timbuktu, Mali). These internationally renowned annual festivals encourage a dialogue of peace, cultural exchange and the promotion of artists in their region.
This year’s Night of the Cultural Caravan for Peace will be called “Night of Sanankouya and Friendship”. The Sanankouya in Bambara is the joking relationship that expresses concord and social cohesion among men; it will be a great time of communion, shared recognition and joys for the early return of peace through friendship and solidarity of the people of the world toward Mali.
This special evening of music and dance will be entertained by the artists from the Ségou region, Morocco, and from the northern regions of Mali. They will host the festival goers, the friends of Mali, the friends of the partner festivals of the Cultural Caravan for Peace (the Festival in the Desert of Mali, and the Taragalte Festival of Morocco), for unforgettable moments on the banks of the Niger River.
The activities of the Cultural Caravan for Peace at the second edition in Ségou will focus on two (2) major activities:
- The Night of Sanankouya and Friendship
- A Talk and debate on National Reconciliation and the Algiers Agreements
